Viewsonic ViewPad 10e Gingerbread Tablet, priced at $399

First seen last year, the Viewsonic ViewPad 10e did not really draw any attention since then. The tablet, which is the successor of the ViewPad 10, is designed for entry level users, but the 10e doesn’t seem to be reasonably priced. Viewsonic is not that famous compared to other major players in the Android tablet world and it won’t change that way even if their new tablet is released. I stated that because the 10e has a selling price of a whopping $399!

Although the tablet’s 9.7-inch (1026 x 768 pixels) IPS display is reasonable, the 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM and the 1 GHz single-core processor is just quite low. The tablet is also equipped with an HDMI port, micro-SD, and a micro-USB port. What makes the tablet even more disappointing is the fact that it is preinstalled with a stock Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS even though the competitions are going for Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich.

I think the Viewsonic ViewPad 10e doesn’t stand a chance at all. If you just add extra bucks then you get a quad-core ASUS Transformer Prime. Also, for $249, you will get a 7-inch quad-core ASUS MeMO with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. As of the moment, the ViewPad 10e is only available for preorder as listed by Amazon.

What do you think about the tablet? Are you interested to have one?

Motorola XOOM Receives an Official Ice Cream Sandwich Update

Great news to all Motorola Xoom owners out there because the latest and official Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS update should be available by now for OTA (Over-the-Air) downloading. This latest update of Android will replace the Xoom’s currently installed Honeycomb OS with ICS, which is the most recent build of Android. The Xoom update rolled out a week later when Asus started the release the same update to their latest Transformer Prime Tab.

As of the moment, I guess the update is only felt by the US Xoom users but I am pretty sure the international users will soon have the update also.
This is a good sign that all of the first generation tablets with Tegra 2 processor will also get the Ice Cream Sandwich too, because almost all of them have the same hardware build. That depends on the decision of the manufacturers though but this is enough to put a smile on the first-gen Honeycomb user’s face. As mentioned above, Asus was the first to roll out then Notion Ink tablet and now the Xoom. I really hope that LG, Acer, Samsung and other manufacturers will follow also.

HP TouchPad, to run on Android Ice Cream Sandwich using CM9?

If you are one of those who bought an HP Touchpad and calmly waited for a stable port of Android OS on their tablet, you’ll be jumping for joy when you see what the CM9 can offer. Previously, the Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 builds of the CM7 was not for the average user because they are not that stable to run. Although the Alpha 3 is much better than the two Alphas, it still has a lot of issues and also not suitable for an average user.

Since the CM7 alphas, a lot of improvements were made to make the Android OS work on the TouchPad. Because of that, let us welcome the CM9 and take a look at the preview video below:

CM9 is not that perfect but it is way better that the previous alphas. Everything works except for the video playback and the camera. Well, the CM team behind all of these is on the right path in terms of making the Android OS possible for the TouchPad. Do you own a TouchPad? If so, are you planning on flashing it with CM9?

Toshiba Excite x10 unveils World’s Thinnest Tablet

Announced as the Regza AT700 in October 2011, the Toshiba Excite x10 which only measures 7.7-mm thick is now the world’s thinnest tablet. It is thinner than the ASUS Transformer Prime by 0.6 mm. Not only that, the tablet is also light at 535 grams beating up the 601-gram Apple iPad 2.

The 10-inch (1280 x 800 resolution) Excite x10’s display is shielded by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. The back cover of the tablet is outfitted with brushed magnesium alloy, making the tablet both damage resistant and elegant.
The Excite x10 is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4420 processor and it will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. It is also equipped with a 2 Megapixels front-facing camera and a bigger 5 Megapixel rear camera.

Toshiba is known to equip their tablets with a multitude of ports and to keep the tradition alive, the Excite x10 is outfitted with a micro-USB, micro-SD, and HDMI ports. I am really impressed and surprised how they fit those ports considering the tablet is very thin. Well, of course they are not standard-sized, but it is much better compared to nothing at all.
Some may think that the price should be lower as the tablet goes thinner, but that is not the case here. The 16 GB Toshiba Excite x10 will have a selling price of $529 and $599 for the 32 GB model.
What do you think? Are you Excited for the Excite?
